THE LAST SLICE OF PIZZA IS A TEST OF CIVILISATION
Four people, one last slice and a small diplomatic negotiation disguised as good manners.
One slice remains.
Four people have noticed it.
Nobody moves.
Diplomatic negotiations begin.
“Does anybody want the last piece?”
“No, no. You have it.”
“I’m full.”
A lie.
Everyone wants the pizza.
But everyone also wants to appear generous, civilised and morally superior to the other people who clearly want the pizza.
So a small strategic game begins: acquire the slice without looking like the person who desperately wanted the slice.
Eventually someone says:
“Well, if nobody wants it…”
Gone.
Humanity has invented laws, parliaments and international treaties.
We have still not solved the last slice of pizza.
